Musical Things I Want.

I recently discovered the KCRW website, and it's an internet radio station that focuses on unknown artistes. The interesting thing about it is that the station takes the effort to archive all its interviews and live performances. We're talking about 1990s old here. It's a real jackpot of beautiful tunes. Thanks to it, i've been able to unearth some real gems from the past, bands i've really wanted to hear, but are just too difficult to find.

Well, i'm currently listening to Turin Brakes's performance on the show. I've been interested in this band ever since the OC days, since their song 'Rain City' was included on the sound track. So i went digging further into their history and was delighted to find out they have a nice acoustic sound in their early days. More specifically, i was obsessed with their 'The Optimist LP', which was released in 2001 and even nominated for Mercury Prize award. Unfortunately, when i went to the CD shops, i just couldn't find it anywhere.

So eight years on, guess how happy i was to find an archived performance of theirs on the KCRW website, performing songs off 'The Optimist'. And they didn't disappoint. They have a real lush sound, particularly considering it's a live performance. The lead singer has a beautiful intensity to his voice, really lovely stuff. Back then they must've sounded like a more emotive Coldplay.

Why not just give it a go and click on it, you just might find something you like. I recommend rainy weather, dark skies and a cup of hot tea to accompany it.
