Today's TEL is the opening scene from the film True Grit. I love how the entire screen is drenched in darkness, save for the porch light illuminating the dead body. The result is a dramatic shot that immediately encapsulates the loss that Mattie has suffered. Beautiful work as usual from cinematographer Roger Deakins.
